Inventor is the final Boss of the Dwarf Tunnels (floor 2).
Overview []
Inventor[]
"One of the chief sponsors of the mining complex beneath the human castle, he thus bears a great deal of responsibility for freeing Iratus from his eternal prison. Not that anyone would dare remind him of this fact, since his keen mind has been deemed invaluable by the Alchemists' Guild. After all, few can actually calculate the precise amount of explosive power needed to clear a tunnel without causing a cave-in. But now that he is personally forced to try to salvage this venture, he has turned his great intellect to far more warlike pursuits." |

Pylons[]
"The newest development in controlled electrical currents! Mages might have harnessed the power of lightning millennia ago, but that does not stop the Inventor from taking pride in his creation. And how better to cement the superiority of dwarven science than to use it to put an end to a world-ending necromantic invasion?" |

Behavior[]
Inventor will use AOE attack until one of his Pylons is damaged, after which he will have a high chance to repair it instead of attacking. Defensive Pylon heals and buffs Inventor as its default move and is almost guaranteed to to remove Debuffs and other negative effects if the Inventor is afflicted with such effects. Supportive Pylon has high priority for its Buff ability. The chance for it to use the stun ability is higher when there is a minion not protected by Ward .
Approach[]
Vigor approach (destroying Pylons)[]
Since Inventor is almost immune to conventional damage, destroying the Pylons is a common way to kill him. Depending on difficulties and not counting the Pylons' support, the player needs to destroy roughly 6-9 Pylons to take down the Inventor. Taking Defensive Pylons' healing into account, the number should be even higher. Pylons are immune to stress, Buffs and Debuffs. As such, any abilities that inflict or scale with those effects are ineffective against them.
Out of all Pylons, the Offensive ones seem to be the least dangerous, having no other purposes than dealing damage, but can quickly remove Ward with their multi-target attacks. The other 2 kinds of Pylon: Defensive and Supportive are much more of a threat. Both of these are dedicated to supporting the Inventor, constantly granting him strong, long-lasting Buffs to improve his insignificant damage output. Without means to remove Buffs, Inventor will eventually hit extremely hard. Prioritizing Supportive ones is advised, as they give the highest damage Buffs to Inventor and protect him with Block and Ward . Defensive ones can heal both Vigor and Sanity for Inventor along with buffing. On higher difficulties (Good Always Wins), they can heal half the damage of a destroyed Pylon dealt to Inventor with each round, which turns the fight into a DPS race where minions' damage must be high enough to quickly take out at least 1 Pylon in a round and outpace the healing rate.
Various minions can be considered for heavy damage dealer role. It is possible for a Head Hunter to acquire Abyssal Bounty ability before the fight (by using Steles) to kill Pylons with ease. The Pylons have almost no Initiative , and thus become easy prey for Unfrozen 's attacks. Vampire and Blood Phantasm are also great choices, if their Luck is high enough for consistent critical hits from Savage Bite and Savage Impale. Make sure the attacks aimed at a Pylon are enough kill it before the Inventor's turn. Otherwise, he might fully repair it back, rendering the efforts futile. Along with damage dealers, it is advised to bring minions that can remove Buffs built up on Inventor. Banshee and Unfrozen , which can reach the last position, are best for this task, using Desolate Scream and Purging Blizzard respectively. When 2 Supportive Pylons are present, quickly destroy one as they can easily stack Ward on Inventor and prevent Buff-clearing. If the player has Ring of Purity, this task should be much easier as the artifact ignores Ward . Consider adding Lost Soul to the fight to protect vulnerable minions with Ward such as Head Hunter from being stunned by Supportive Pylons.
It is worth noting that some minions can consistently apply Debuffs on Inventor to prevent Defensive Pylons from healing Inventor. Infested , equipped with Crow Paw, can easily break though Ward and inflict Curse effects with Pestilent Rain. Inventor's AOE strike is guaranteed to hit a Black Widow in Spiky Cocoon and receive Spider Venom Debuff in the process. Head Hunter is particularly effective at this. He can inflict an irremovable Debuff with Sundering Wrath, which will force a Defensive Pylon to attempt to remove the Debuff in vain almost every turn and thus render it useless.
Vigor approach (focusing Inventor)[]
Inventor is effectively invulnerable to minion's damage due to his immense Armor and Resistance . However, it is still possible to kill him with direct attacks by inflicting Debuffs that remove his said defenses completely. For the approach to work, the minions tasked with doing so have to act before every other minions (this means other minions will have to delay their turn in case they have higher Initiative ) and the squad must be able to target back positions (as Inventor is a back liner). Minions suitable for this task are Fallen Dhampir , Head Hunter and Lich . Fallen Dhampir 's ultimate abilities can quickly strip Block and Ward from Inventor and apply Debuffs that render him vulnerable to damage. Since Defensive Pylons will attempt to clear the Debuffs, the player needs to invest sufficiently on Wrath so that the Dhampir is able to use said abilities every turn to efficiently wear down the Inventor (Overwhelming Ire talent for reduced Wrath and Spiked Ring artifact for Wrath renewal are recommended). The constant AOE attacks from Offensive Pylons and Inventor himself also provide a considerable amount of Wrath for Dhampir . Compared to Dhampir , Head Hunter and Lich are more reliable. Head Hunter 's Sundering Wrath effect can not be removed like normal Debuffs, and thus the effect will stick to Inventor permanently no matter what. Unlike others, Lich breaks defenses using Traps rather than Debuffs. The effect of Corrosive Cloud Traps will always persist as long as the Inventor stands on them, which counters Defensive Pylon's dispelling effect.
Sanity approach[]
There are few stress abilities that can reach position 4. As such, using stress against Inventor might be an unappealing option. Since Inventor is the only target vulnerable to stress, single-target abilities are recommended: Infested 's Plaguefall, Wraith 's Necrotic Wind. Banshee is a valuable asset for this approach. Her Desolate Scream remove all Buffs from Inventor and move him out of the back to take hits from other minions.
